Following Vatican II’s call for renewal in the Catholic Church in the mid 1960’s, our Sisters established Houses of Prayer and Retreat Centres around Northern Ontario. Having completed advanced courses on spiritual direction and retreat accompaniment, the purpose was to provide support for the personal faith and prayer life of Catholics and other spiritual seekers. Besides spiritual direction/accompaniment, some of the programs offered included the 30 Day Retreat/ Ignatian Exercises, one day to eight day retreats, 12 Step retreats, “Youth Encounter Christ” weekends, “New beginnings” Weekends (for widowed, divorced and separated Catholics), women’s retreats, men’s retreats, liturgical season themed retreats, vocation discernment retreats, cosmic creation retreats and many more. Name as many of the Houses of Prayer and Spiritual Centres established by our Congregation as you can. The most complete answer wins.
This week we are invited to pray for the 133 Sisters of St. Joseph ministering in Argentina, for the 135 Associates, and for the people of that country.
