On October 20,iIt was a lovely bright day in Sudbury and we were able to join up with some committee members from The Junction Creek to clean a long one of the trails. We were joined by members of The Junction Creek committee as well as one of the radio stations here in Sudbury. In the photo you will see Sister Bonnie Chesser (far left) as well as one of our Associates, Jennifer (right) and they were joined by Elaine. A shout of gratitude for all the great work!
This week we are invited to pray for the 4 Sisters and 50 Associates ministering in Switzerland, from the Cuneo and Lyon Congregations. In 1900, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cuneo sent "missionaries" to Switzerland and settled in Basel, Naters, Goppestein, Bern. Many Italian men emigrated in search of work, in constructing tunnels, working in mines, factories and road maintenance. The work was safe, but the human price to pay was high! Loneliness, marginalization, tiring fatigue, due to working conditions, language, distance ... The presence of Sisters was the stable figure. Currently one sister is remains, engaged in the apostolic mission of catechesis, visits to the elderly, liturgical animation ... in favor of migrants.
The Jesuits of Canada express our deep condolences to Ms. Echaquan’s family and community. We also express our solidarity with Indigenous Peoples’ frustration that systemic bias and discrimination against Indigenous Peoples in Canada continues to be widespread.
