In 1881 a group of 5 Sisters from the congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph came to the area that is now recognized as Thunder Bay to meet the unmet needs of the residents. Originally the Sisters set up a school but quickly identified that there was a great need for a hospital in this area. With the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway underway, workers were at risk of injury or death due to the dangerous and difficult work they were doing. Click on title for more information
