The motto is on the medal that was attached to the Rosary we wore with our black and white habits: "Congregavit Nos in Unum Christi Amor" - "The love of Christ has gathered us together as one". It is also on our CSJ crest. Fr. Vincent, Provincial of the Basilians and former Superior of St. Michael's College in Toronto was a devoted friend of the Sisters. In 1890, forty years after the Sisters had arrived from Philadelphia to Toronto, he was asked to identify a motto for them. He chose this quotation from the Holy Thursday Eucharistic liturgy. He found the motto exemplified their spirit and would encourage them to trust in the "love of Christ". The Hamilton and London Sisters were close to the Toronto group and easily adopted the motto, as did Peterborough, Pembroke and Sault Ste. Marie later on.
